WELSH, ROBERT TOM, SCOTTY to friends and acquaintances, BOB to family.
Scotty was born in Airdrie Scotland on April 9, 1930 to father, Alexander Kerr Welsh. Scotty died on Sunday July 17, 2016 at Markham Stouffville Hospital with his wife Mary Anne and son Jamie at his side. Scotty emigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1938 and lived in Schumacher until moving to Toronto. Scotty was proud of his Scottish heritage but more proud to be a Canadian citizen, as he expressed frequently. He loved to listen to, whistle and sing along to all types of music. Scottish, Old Country, Opera. He played professional soccer in Toronto in his youth. He always remained a loyal Manchester United fan. His great love was hockey, he played in his youth #11. During his life time he mentored and coached many young men in hockey, he encouraged their hockey and life skills and left lifelong impressions on them to this day. He owned Hockey Schools in Markham and Bracebridge and elsewhere. He coached the Aurora Tigers & Etobicoke Indians Junior "B" hockey teams & Leaside Iron Tomahawks. He was involved in Markham Minor Hockey Association as an executive member for years and coached as well. He was co-owner of Markham Travelways Junior ''B" team. He was tirelessly involved with his sons many sporting activities. He was generous, compassionate, a hard worker, never took credit for anything he accomplished and never seemed to age. People would see him after years of no contact with him and would recognize him immediately by his voice or his look, and their usual comment was," you've never changed a bit. "
He never touched alcohol, was designated driver for his friends before it was popular. His drink of choice was always Coca Cola. He smoked cigars and pipes but eventually gave up smoking but continued to always have a can of Coke in his hand.
Bob was the loving and much loved husband of Mary Anne(nee Moody) for 52 years. Proud and loving father of Alex, Scott (Carly), Jamie, Derek (Adele). Much loved and loving grandpa of Madelyn, Colin, Makenna, Maria & Nicole. Older Brother to Margaret, Sandy & Marie.
Scotty has been cremated. No service was held per his wishes.
The family would like everyone who knew him to raise a can of Coke to celebrate a life well lived and a man well loved.
Here's to Scotty!!!
