Please share a memory of Anne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anne Margaret Griffiths (nee Horner)
At Southlake Regional Health Centre, Newmarket, Anne passed away with faith and dignity on Monday, June 22, 2015, as a natural display of heavenly lights lite up the night sky. She was surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of 37 years to Bob Griffiths of Keswick. Predeceased by her parents, Harry and Hattie (nee Stiles) Horner of Belhaven. Dear sister of John Horner and his wife Dorothy of Keswick. Stepmom to Keith and Tracey.
Anne was raised on a dairy farm north of Belhaven. Majoring in geography Anne graduated from the University of Toronto in 1967. At the age of 21 years, Anne’s first teaching position was back at her home high school Sutton District High. This was followed by several years at King City Secondary School. Again she returned to Sutton High to complete her teaching career.
In the early 80’s Anne joined her husband Bob in real estate sales. Anne was very involved in the family’s growing real estate business.
Through her life Anne was well known for her interest and kindness to people. Many, many individuals received Anne’s phone calls, cards, notes, letters and visits on both happy and sad occasions. Despite her illness she continued these activities until a few weeks ago.
Over the last five years Anne has reaped the kindness that she has sown. First and foremost, Anne was grateful to each and every person who took time to encourage her throughout this most difficult journey. Anne truly treasured the phone calls, visits, cards, plants and food. These expressions of caring made her burden easier to bear. Anne valued the unwavering support of Tom and Janice Stem, owners of Dynamic Greens in Stouffville. They both so generously gave of their time and wisdom during Anne’s long battle.
Thirty years ago Anne’s mother wrote a story about Anne, she concluded, “I hope that when Anne is older, as I am, that she will stand for all that is good. She has made a good start.” Her family concludes that Anne has made a good finish.
The family expresses great appreciation to the nurses and staff on the sixth floor, palliative care unit for their compassionate care. The family also thank the Reverend Michael Darrach, Bob’s nephew, for his constant and continuous support.
According to Anne’s wishes there will be no visitation and a private funeral will be held. Interment will be held in the family plot in Queensville Cemetery.
A Celebration of Anne’s life will be held in the Keswick Christian Church, 2 Old Homestead Road, Keswick, on Saturday, July 18, 2015 from 2-5 p.m. with a formalized time of remembrance at 3:00 p.m.
Arrangements entrusted to the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, Sutton, 905-722-3274. The family would appreciate donations to The Hospital for Sick Children or a Hospice of choice in memory of Anne.
