Lloyd Frederick Crate
With aching hearts the family of Lloyd Crate announces his peaceful passing at home. A truly special one of a kind man. Surrounded by his loving family our beloved Father, Grandpa/Poppy left us early in the morning on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Born in Toronto in 1925, Dad had eight brothers and sisters. His parents Fred and Bessie moved their busy brood to Keswick in 1930 to establish F.S. Crate & Sons. His legacy is carried on today by his 4 children and through their world class marinas. At 18 years of age dad went off to war where he proudly served in the infantry with the Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry Highlanders. During his three years of service in Germany and Holland he narrowly escaped several brushes with death, memories of which haunted him until his final days. For the last six years, Dad fought his own health battles on the home front and was able to remain at home thanks to the compassionate care of Donna, Bev, Marilyn, Dr. Burrows and all of the wonderful support staff. Loving and honoring him forever are his children; Brian and Heather, Lynn and Wayne, Greg and Karen, and Steven and Robin. Loving Poppy of Jason (Julia), Cory (Tami), Dan (Krista), Stephanie (Trevor), Melissa (Aaron), Michelle (Sean), Nicole (Nick), Ryan, Brandon, Emily, Jessica, Katie, and Carley, and Great Poppy of Jacob, Josh, Cole, Luke, Cam, Elle, Brennen, and Tyler. Dear brother of June Whiting. He will be fondly remembered by Angie, Jerry and Shona and his best friend Duke. Predeceased by his dear wife, Helen (nee McLaughlin), his parents; Fred and Bessie, his siblings; Anne, Vivian, Maude, Shirley, John, Harry and Stella. Lovingly remembered by his extended family and many friends. Resting at the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton from 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesday and 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday. Funeral Service in Knox United Church, 34 Market Street, Sutton, Friday at 2:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. Interment of cremated remains at a later date in Queensville Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Memorial condolences may be made at www.forrestandtaylor.com
