Obituary of Helen Mary Slaght

Please share a memory of Helen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
SLAGHT, Helen Mary (nee Foord) July 17, 1926 – June 13, 2019 It's almost impossible to summarize the life of a woman who lived 92 years in just a few words. Helen was a child of the great depression who loved a bargain and kept all sorts of things throughout her life that, when she could afford to replace, didn't. She had one cookbook, and then pulled out all sorts of delicious recipes from the Toronto Daily Star. She knew how to stretch a can of Campbell's soup to feed a family of 4, as well as keeping a loving environment at home while raising her children and always available for good advice and a smile. Helen was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, and worked at Munro Metals. She met and married Harry Slaght in 1951 and followed Harry on his career journey from Hamilton, to Toronto, Montreal and finally back to Ontario. Harry and Helen retired to Sutton by the Lake where they enjoyed a new community and many new friends. They spent summers in Sutton, and winters in Hollywood Florida. Helen was a lively presence within Knox United Church in Sutton and leaves behind many good friends. She loved to play bridge, bake, and knit, knit, knit! Helen will be greatly missed by her son John and his wife Dianne, granddaughters Stephanie (Chad), Jennifer (Cori), her great grandbabies Landon, Riley, Claire, Vera, daughter Gayle and her husband George, grandsons Charles (Julianne) and Cody (Christine). She will finally be able to once again rejoin her husband Harry and enjoy golfing which they so loved to do together once again at that great gig in the sky. On Thursday June 13th, 2019 Helen peacefully left this world surrounded by her family and they are forever grateful for her incredible care at Cedarvale's LTC in Keswick. She gave them a run for their money, and in the true spirit of her Scottish was feisty to the end. Cremation has taken place, with internment in Tillsonburg. Arrangements in care of the Forrest & Taylor Funeral, Sutton, 905-722-3274. Memorial condolences may be made at www.forrestandtaylor.ca
