I just happened to be looking at something in the Pefferlaw area and a wonderful person came to mind. I lost contact with Trudy many years ago and was sad to hear about her Dad (John) passing away ; I see he passed away some time ago but I've never forgotten Trudy and do hope she is doing well these days. My thoughts and prayers are with her.

I first met John and Roz in the mid seventies when I came to Sutton. They were always so kind to me. The Christmas garland they gave me then still graces our fireplace mantle every year. So many good memories. May your memories sustain you in the months and years to come. My thoughts are with you.

I had the privilege to speak to John on the phone just days before his passing and we spoke of how we cannot choose our time and place, but that it was in Gods hands.
He consoled me on the passing of my father in law and then, ..... with his distinguished
Scottish brogue said;
...... "that he considered it an honor and privilege to have me as his cousin, and that he thanked God for that gift."
Now I repeat; .... it was indeed an honor and a privilege to have John Hastings as MY cousin, a good and righteous gentleman. God's speed cousin, see you soon!

I first met John when living in Georgina Twp. and he ended up purchasing my home on the corner of Pete's Lane in Pefferlaw when I left to move to Keswick. We lost touch after I came to Australia in the early '80's and had just re-established contact this past year. He was always a dignified man, with a ready smile and wonderful sense of humor. It was an honor to have known him and my deepest condolences to the family.

Dear family of John: John was a wonderful person. He had strong convictions and stood up for what he believed in. John was very supportive of Jericho Youth Services and the youth that we served.
John and I kept in touch by email, even after he moved to the nursing home in Pickering.
He will be truly missed in our community. Rest in peace, John

I have such great memories of visiting the family home in Pefferlaw, of my pancake and sausage breakfasts, and how welcome I was always made to feel. John was a great husband, father, grandfather, and friend. My thoughts are with the family.

I want to tell all the family how much I enjoyed chatting with John lately on the phone.
He always kept in touch after he moved from Pefferlaw, either with friendly chat or questions about what was happening in our little town of Pefferlaw.
He called me about 2 weeks ago and we chatted, he mentioned he was going to the hospital for some kind of operation. I wished him the best.
He asked to me look up the phone numbers for a couple of people he wanted to phone.
When I got off the phone I had this strange feeling that he had called to actually say good-bye to me. It was a weird feeling.
I will miss his phone calls but I am glad he will be back with Roz again.

sorry for the loss of John , always looked forward to meeting him on the street, or in my shop .we had some great discussions, Pride of family was number 1 and a close second was his love of politics . In his later years his love of family research and working on his family tree was our number one priority, a addiction we both got caught up in . Rest in Peace John , another shinning star in our heaven ..
