Dear Barb, Bryan and Heyd family members:
Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of Hans; a fine gentlemen who was admired by his friends, colleagues, superiors and subordinates at the City of Toronto.
Hans played a key role at the Survey and Mapping Section of Toronto, supervising and contributing to the management, development and harmonization of computer systems and related projects across three or more departments. These duties are difficult to do at the best of times, yet Hans undertook them with skill and enthusiasm after the 1998 amalgamation of seven cities, when employee frustrations were rising and computer systems were in a significant state of flux.
In parallel with Han's contributions at the City of Toronto, I understand that he undertook a major construction project for his family home over many years. Both the job and part-time home construction are gargantuan tasks not for the faint of heart.
Hans, thank you for being a friend and colleague at the City of Toronto. You set a fine example for all of us and you made my job much easier.
Walter (Wally) Kowalenko

My condolences to Barb, Anna and Leisl, I've known Hans from the early '70s when he started working for Metro Toronto. Hans was a great friend and a great work mate, and it was a pleasure and honour to have known him for over four decades and worked with him for over a quarter of a century. Hans was a man of his word, and you could always trust what he told you. He was a good worker, and you could always trust the work that he did. He was a man who was not afraid to say 'I don't know' when appropriate, or to help someone out when they needed assistance. Hans made my work at Metro so much easier because I knew I could trust him to do what he agreed to do, Whether at work or on personal time, Hans was a pleasure to be around. I am greatly saddened to hear of his passing, and will always have fond memories of our time together, whether at work or in our personal life. I will always miss him. RIP my friend.
Sincerely,
Gordon & Leslie Webb.

Dear Barb and Family
My sincerest condolences to you all at this very difficult time. I remember the New Year's Eve Neale and I spent with you and Hans, what fun we had sharing stories and the sound of his laughter. I haven't seen you since the passing of my Mom, Barb, and if you are feeling up to it, I would love to see you sometime.
My love and thoughts are with you.
