I am devastated to hear that the world has lost lovely Shawna. Several years ago, Shawna came to my Kindergarten class at Black River Public School as a co-op student from SDHS. She immediately became an excellent member of our busy teaching team. We loved her gentle, intelligent ways and her willingness to take on any challenge. I was so sorry to hear of this tragedy and the loss of Shawna. My condolences to her family, friends and all who loved her. I am the instructor for her Communication class at Durham College. Shawna when you smiled you lit up the whole room and your laugh was so contiguous. You always had a story to tell your co-workers! We will miss you at Parkview.

I was lucky enough to get to teach Shawna two years in a row at Morning Glory; grades 5 & 6. In fact, she was one of the students I requested to keep when I switched from teaching grade 5 to grade 6. She was a student who had a special spot in my heart and I've often thought of her since she left MG and went on to high school. Stacy, I remember we had many a phone conversation about Shawna. Whether it was regarding friendships or the dreaded math I was never worried about how Shawna would do in life. She worked incredibly hard, used all advice and help she was given to learn new things and overcome challenges. She always put a smile on my face and brightened my day. I am reeling from the news of her passing and the loss of her bright light in our world. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone.

What a beautiful gift Stacey and Steve shared with the world for 19 years. Shawna was a joy, a blessing, and a young woman to be very proud of. Shawna was truly a God-sent gift to the world. She always found a way to remain positive in the hardest of times. Even growing up, she used her positivity to influence those around her. Whenever you were having a bad day, she was the one you could count on to make you smile. Her kindness was always appreciated and was never ignored. She always seemed to bring everyone together whether we were at school, or with other people. I always admired every attribute she had, especially while bowling.
One of my fondest memories with Shawna was when we went bowling with my family in the tenth grade. Somehow she effortlessly managed to get strike after spare, and took top prize at the end of the game. She laughed at me as I was unable to even manage getting half the pins down while I slammed the ball down the lane.
I'm glad that her and I got to share such an experience together. I would have never asked for someone else to have shared it with me. She is forever in my heart and at this time I would like to share my condolences with the family as the community mourns Shawna's loss. She'll be forever held in our memories and hearts.
