It has taken some time for the passing of my dear friend and colleague to hit home. Brett was a good friend, through thick and thin, and I will remember him fondly. He was an important community leader, whether in office, on staff or as a member of his First Nation. I can't recall him ever saying a disrespectful word about anyone - even when he was angry. We talked baseball as often as we talked about anything and I have already experienced the inability to chat with Brett before and after a Blue Jays game. I don't think I will watch a game this season without thinking about my friend and missing him. I hope he is sitting in the bleachers somewhere with the sun on his face, hope in his heart and the smell of fresh mown grass in the air, with a dog and a beverage in hand and listening to the crack of the ball off a bat as it sails into the wild blue yonder.

I've had the pleasure of knowing you Brett, you.. to me will always be the most respectful man I've ever known.. Always a bright smile and kind words to me.. I had mixed feelings the day you left us, I was crushed at the thought of such a good soul leaving so many who love you, yet at the same time, I wish you well on your Journey my friend.. Brett was such a kind, caring, loving and gentle man. I have so many memories of him from when I was young and all though I didn't see him as much as an adult he will always be part of my extended family. His shy but warm smile and big heart will be missed by all. I had the honor of watching him become Chief, that day will never be forgotten, all were beaming with pride!
