Mr. Olsen was my Instrumental Music teacher at SDHS in 1979-80. He was then, and remained, the best teacher I ever had. He was always fair, supportive, and an inspiration. His open approach and compassionate nature set an example for me that extended well beyond the classroom and the subject.
I have often wondered where life led him, and am terribly saddened to learn of his passing, even after all these years. It is a delight, though, to see that he was blessed with many people who, I'm sure, enriched and fulfilled his days.
My condolences to the family.

Dear Linda,
I am so sorry to hear that Leif has passed on. I have thought of you both often.
I remember his stories, catching the mice and taking them for a long drive away from your home and the mice coming back, beating him back to the house. lol and many of his stories.
Yes, I see and I understand that he touched so many lives with his kindness and love of life.. I love the stories the students and friends have written about him. So true, his passion, his living so fully with honesty and passion and caring. He was an inspiration to many and shaped their lives for the better. My thoughts are with you linda and your family.
Take care
Best wishes,

Dear Mr. Olson. - Leif.
It was only today that your voice came to me. I found that you have shed your mortal coil. Without the support, love and guidance from you and Linda, I would not be here today.
Your influence guided me on my path and gave me the permission to be the artist I am. I attribute my foundations as an actor to you.
You understood me more than I understood myself.
I still remember your wise words 20 years on.
I am truly blessed to have known you.
Thank you.
Love to you and your family.

If it had not been Mr. Olsen's music class (Sutton D.H.S.) I don't know when or if I would ever have realized the precious gift of music that has been such a huge part of my life and given me such joy. Mr. Olsen guided me in the discovery of my natural musical talents and was wonderfully encouraging. Not only does music still give me personally great joy, but I also use my musical gifts in service to the community on a regular basis.
Thank you, Mr. Olsen, for giving of yourself to your students. I hope you had some idea of the difference you have made in the world.
My condolences to the family.

Mrs. Olsen and family...I was so saddened to hear of your loss, especially at this late date, as I would have liked to pay my respects in person. Mr. Olsen didn't just teach drama at Denison...he taught compassion, acceptance, self confidence and how to dream big, I went to school for Broadcast Journalism and have worked on-air for 16 years...a career choice that I credit in part to him. I am sure many of his students feel this way, as his drama room always opened doors and opportunities to be yourself and pursue what you love. It was an honour to be one of his students...as a parent, I hope my children will find their "Mr. Olsen", to guide and nurture them and create lasting memories of their school years just like Mr. Olsen did for so many. Sending my thoughts and prayers to family and friends.

I was very sorry to hear of the passing of Leif. I was a neighbour and co-worker of Leif's when he was a teenager before he went to study at Lakehead University. I fondly remember that he introduced me to canoeing, a lifetime passion, and he hauled me all around Wellington County one winter in a drafty old VW beetle. He attended my wedding to my wife Wenda in 1975, but after that we lost touch as we pursued different careers at opposite ends of the province. I'll always remember his wit and the twinkle in his eye as he told a funny story and the energy and enthusiasm he gave in his approach to life. To his family please accept my deepest condolences.

My memories of Mr. Olsen are from my years at Sutton high. He taught me so much more than notes on a page. He showed passion and vulnerability to live your life with every ounce of your soul. To seize all the highs and lows and let the emotion and meaning of life guide your journey. Thank you for the privilege of your lessons.

I only met Leif once a couple of years ago but his wise and loving presence touched me deeply. Though we only hung out for a few hours, it was clear that he understood me on a level that some people I've known for years can't come close to. We were going to hang out again earlier this year but put it off due to his health issues, so seeing his obituary in the newspaper yesterday was a shock as I was just about to get in contact again. He was clearly a man of virtue and self-knowledge and I feel blessed and honoured to have known him, if only for a brief time. My heart goes out to his family and friends. Thanks, Leif, for being you.

Dear Family of Leif,
I just wanted to express my sadness at the passing of Leif, or Mr. Olsen, as I knew him. He was my drama teacher at Dr. Denison and the one who recommended that I pursue voice lessons/drama which has lead to my current profession as a professional opera singer. Without him as the catalyst, I wouldn't be doing what I am today. His class was loved by all because he loved what he did and was so passionate about it and us. He was an amazing teacher! Funny, wise, emotional, empathetic, and a true gentleman. This is how I will remember him. My condolences to you all.

Mr. Olsen is one of the only teachers I talk about year after year whenever "high school memory" conversations arise. He taught me to be assertive and make my voice loud and clear. His classroom was like stepping into another world inside a highschool. They was no judgement or stress. If you truely tried, he would push you to try even harder in his own unique loving way. Never a bad day in his class .
Rest in peace younge soul - you will never be forgotten.

It has been 15 years since high school but I still bring up stories or life lessons that were instilled by interaction with Mr. and Mrs.Olsen.
Mrs. Olsen, my sincerest condolences to you and your family. He was one of the most vibrant souls I have ever met and he made drama class more than just a class. He helped bring forth that inner fire of passion, energy, creativity; that inner life that we so often do not take time to recognize in ourselves. He saw you. Not just another student among many, but you as an individual.
Rest in Peace Mr. Olsen. Thank you for your kindness and inspiring us to not be afraid of connecting with ourselves and our surrounding elements.

When I got to high school I was lucky to find Mr Olsen, a teacher who hugged with his heart, who embodied the Artist way of life, who got a twinkle in his eye when you tried. Tried anything, no matter how novice, trying with your whole self was what mattered. The kind of teacher who read "Love You Forever" with a lump in his throat and tears in his eyes on the last day of class as the students hugged and cried right along. Thank you for sharing your Artist heart and soul with so many, for being so giving of your energy. I know your spirit will live on in the many lives you touched. Rest in peace. I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always.

Mr. Olsen was an amazing teacher. He made me feel like I was worth it as a person, and that everyone had some sort of talent, even if it wasn't acting. He was one of those teachers that made high school seem worthwhile.
Thank you Leif. Hope you make wherever you are awesome.

Mr.Olsen was my guitar teacher while I was attending Dr. Denison. Anyone who had the pleasure of having him as a teacher leave his class with nothing but fond memories. He had a way with students no other teacher had. He understood us. Heaven gained another angle.
