Still think of Bert all the time. He was a great human being and friend. A loss to humanity. We did many reenactments together, always the ally.

Kathy, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. My younger days spent with your dad and Nancy and yourself always brings a smile to my face. They were always so good to us...letting us go to McDonalds and making nice meals at their condo. Your dad is now reunited with the love of his life and will continue to watch over you and protect you and your loved ones. I wish you all the best. RIP Bert, you were a really good man who I am sure will be missed terribly. With Love, Sherri xo

Bert was a wonderful customer and even though I grew up in Niagara Falls, Bert taught me so much more about the War of 1812. He was an endless source of information and a constant source of enjoyment when he visited the shop. I enjoyed our conversations greatly and am honoured to have known such a compassionate and gentle man.
He will be dearly missed.

Dear Kathy and Brandon,
We are so sorry for your loss. Bert was a kind, gentle, soul, and one that never complained. He was knowledgeable and passionate about his endeavours, and always interesting to talk to. He was talented and artistic. He was so pround and loving of both of you and beamed whenever he spoke of you. He was an amazing person, and someone you can be proud to call father and grandfather, and for us to call uncle. We know your loss is great, but Bert is no longer suffering thankfully. We hope that you can find peace in that. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both during this very difficult time.
Love,
Catherine, Tom, Alexander, and Nicholas

I love and miss Bert and Nancy terribly. They taught by example how to be truly good, hard working, kind, patient, loving human beings. My thoughts and prayers are of good health, long life and peace of mind for all of Bert's loved ones; we are many as he had much love to give and received it in kind. I can only imagine the sense of peace our dear friends must feel as they are reunited once again for their journey. I am heartbroken that I cannot make the funeral but I will be doing everything I can to send Bert off from here. He and Nancy will always be remembered with great love and joy.

Kathy, I am sorry I was unable to make it to the visitation or the service. I wanted to let you know that I am thinking about you and sending you strength to see you through this difficult time. I know I did not know your Dad for very long, but he made his way into my heart very quickly. Such a strong, proud man... you were so blessed to have had him as a father... I will never forget him... and how he easily turned what is my job into something I looked forward to. I was always so surprised at how polite and kind he was even though it must have been a struggle for him. He never once made me feel like I was bothering him or interfering. I hope you can take some time for yourself now to finally get some rest. Take your time, heal when you can and remember it is "Okay to not be Okay". You don't need to be strong now.. you can rest knowing that he is now at peace.
It was a sincere pleasure to have met both of you!
Take care of yourself as well as you did your Dad.
Colleen

Such sad news. I was lucky to have Bert as a friend. A man I admired and respected. A man of strong principles. An honest man. A man I should endeavour to emulate. I will miss him. I know that this part of Bert's journey will be easy. The sky will be clear, the water clean and there will be no hard winters. Those loved ones, friends and family who took their journey before him will be waiting to welcome him. I know in my heart I will see him again one day.

Kathy, our sincere condolences on the loss of your Dad, an amazing man with many talents, who will be missed by many. You have lovingly cared for him over the past months during the time he really needed you. He is now reunited with Nancy, a comforting thought. Remember this - death leaves a hole nothing can heal, but LOVE fills the hole, nothing can steal. Love, Rick, Lynn and family xo
