Employees of the Aboriginal Affairs Directorate posted a condolence
Friday, October 17, 2014
A donation of $700 was made to CNET in the name of our friend and colleague, Kate Humpage. Money was raised by the volunteer efforts of more than a dozen current and previous employees of the Aboriginal Affairs Directorate of Employment and Social Development Canada, who prepared, baked and sold over 80 loaves of bread and over 80 deep dish apple pies as part of the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign. The team decided to contribute the proceeds to two charities this year, with Kate’s preferred charity being one of them.
Our sincere condolences to Kate's family and friends. We miss her.

I first met Kate when both of us worked for Customs and Excise in Ottawa. Later, when each us worked for different departments in Hull, we occasionally met over lunch to talk about Queen's, further post-grad studies, family and the never-ending joys of service to Her Majesty. I have not seen Kate for more than 20 years and often wondered how she was doing--until I saw the notice in The Ottawa Citizen this week. I suddenly realize that I shall miss her, as will many others whose paths have crossed with Kate's.
Kate had a way of leaving an impression on people that tended to be indelible.
Condolences to her family and friends.

I met Kate at Carleton University when we were doing our MAs in Public Administration, almost 40 years ago, yet it seems like yesterday, because Kate was a constant - kind, generous, warm spirited, fun loving, and steadfast. Now I share your tremendous loss and my heart goes out to her family and her other friends, of whom she has many. She was always the communication hub of get togethers with fellow grads and the glue that kept our friendship going all these years. I will miss her tremendously, as will my daughter, and my pets. I am so very thankful that I got to see her one last time this summer. Her life was cut short, yet she accomplished more in her lifetime than many of us could ever dream of. If life's value were measured in friends, Kate would be the wealthiest person I know. She shared herself and brought happiness wherever she went. To know her is to love her. My deepest sympathies to her family, friends, and colleagues.

I worked with Kate at the Voluntary Sector Initiative in Ottawa in 2001 - she was a delightful co-worker. What I most remember are the times she invited all of us to Oxford Mills with our families to cut xmas trees and enjoy delicious treats in her cosy kitchen. And some of her perennial flower children grace my garden still, thanks to another generous offer one summer to come and take cuttings from her garden. Wishing you peace in this time of sadness. Warm memories of her will live on.

My deepest sympathies to Kate's family. Kate and I first met at Queen's University where we found ourselves in the same frosh group in the early 1970s. We have stayed in touch ever since and have worked off and on together over years. I last saw Kate in June and she had a busy summer planned, visiting friends and family ---and in her new car. Kate was a genuine, warm and committed person who cared about others and her country. I will miss her.

Kate was a friend and neighbour of mine on Bay St. in Ottawa. She was a kind and gentle soul with a zest for life, and I am glad to have met and known her. I will miss our skates along the canal. My condolences to her family.

I had the pleasure of working and travelling with Kate in the 1980's. I am deeply saddened to hear of her passing. She was way to young and still had so much to offer. My condolences to her family.

Our Dear Kate,
Always a gentle and wise presence.
Kate was in the first group of graduates from the CICR program for Conflict Resolution, in New Brunswick, what a gift for us to have her with us. Although she could have taken it in Ottawa she was drawn to take it here and her gifts of insight, wisdom and humour contributed to a wonderful experience for all of us, Trainers and Students. Getting to know Kate as a friend was very special for me and I looked forward to our shopping and dining adventures. I regret not knowing her sooner and not seeing her more often. She will be deeply missed.
On behalf of CICR and many others in New Brunswick, we send our deepest condolences
to her family.
Thank you for sharing her with us even if only briefly, it was a gift.
Sincerely
Pat Brady
