Phillips, William "Bill" It is with deep sorrow that the family of William (Bill) Irwin Phillips of Jackson's Point announces his peaceful passing on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Veteran's L-Wing, Sunnybrook Health & Sciences Centre, Toronto at the age of 88 years. Bill was predeceased by his parents Gavin and Leonora Phillips, and his siblings Jack, Reta, Doris and Leonora. He is survived by his wife Marlene (nee Clark), his sister Rae Barker, and his children Jane (Merv) Longmore, John (Barb), Jim, Robbie (Bobbi-Jo) and Lee (Dave) Cardwell, 8 grand-children, 5 great-grand-children, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bill was born on April 4, 1925 in Belfast, Northern Ireland, emigrated to Canada in 1928 with his family and grew up in Toronto. He served as Flight Sergeant in the R.C.A.F. from April 1943 until May 1946. He operated the B/A service station (later Gulf Oil) in Jackson's Point from 1950 until 1978. Later, Bill worked at Shannahan Ford, Toronto until his retirement. He loved watching sports, gardening and coaching hockey. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff in L-wing who cared for Bill with kindness, patience and respect over the past 3 years. Memorial donations in Bill's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Society, the Sutton Legion Poppy Fund, or a charity of your choice. The family invites you to a graveside service at Briar Hill Cemetery, Sutton West on Saturday August 24th at 1:00 p.m. and/or a celebration of Bill's life to be held immediately following at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 356, 21 East Street, Sutton West.
