Obituary of Vera May Timmins

Please share a memory of Vera to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Timmins, Vera (Cronsberry) Proud descendant of the Irish/German Palatine pioneers in Canada. Born Dec. 14th, 1915. Died Nov. 26th, 2010 in her 95th year. Vera was married to Aubrey (deceased) for 51 years. She leaves her three children Bruce, Brenda (Jason Pascoe) and Charlotte (Quentin Chapman), seven grandchildren, Selena (Paul Chapman) Dan, Noah, Albert, Oscar Timmins, Leah Timmins Carroll and Emma Newell and two great granddaughters Gwendolyn and Alice Newell. She is survived by her sister Doris Wheeler and brother Howard Cronsberry. Vera was born into a farming family and was ahead of her time. She left the farm and as a single woman in the 1930's, started a hairstyling business, went on to buy her own home and a building with 3 apartments and 2 storefronts. No one could ever tell Vera she couldn't do something because she would do it anyway. In 1968 she cornered then Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau at a campaign stop and, before the security people could prevent it, she buttonholed him to ask " where's that Green Belt you promised?" Security took Vera away with a warning. An active member of the Kinettes, she gave a lot to the community and had many long friendships in the Jackson's Point and Sutton area. At her 93rd birthday party when asked if she wanted a martini she replied "I wish I did". We are proud of her independent spirit and enterprise as an example to other women in a era when women were discouraged to do so. Respecting Vera's wishes, there is no funeral or visitation planned. Cremation has taken place. A wake will be held at the Whispering Pines B&B, 992 Lake Dr East. Jackson's Point on Friday, Dec. 10th, 2010 from 4pm to 8 pm. Arrangements in care of the Forrest & Taylor Funeral Home, Sutton, 905-722-3274
