Always generous in his support for the efforts of others, wise in his counsel, and carrying with a warm hospitality to the other his deep faith, Angus was a real blessing to the wider United Church of Canada church at a time of change and experimentation.
Rest in Peace.

My deepest sympathy to the MacLennan family. Angus was my principal at Colborne Central Public School and was a wonderful administrator! He was always the first to arrive and the last to leave. Every Friday he would compose and distribute his TGIF communication which summarized the week at a glance and gave an overview of the coming week. He recognized student and staff accomplishments or special classroom events and even the odd Happy Birthday or Anniversary! Nobody would leave until they had their TGIF in hand! Angus truly had his thumb on the pulse of every aspect of his school.

Dear Nancy & family, Angus gave me my first teaching job at Hullett Central back in 1976 & I was on the staff until 1987. I am grateful for that start.
Doreen Radford who was also a staff member sent me the notice of Angus' passing as I no longer live in Canada. What a lovely tribute to him.
My sincerest condolences to you all.

Dear Nancy and family… Angus was the principal at Robertson Memorial for several years when I taught kindergarten. He was very helpful in making sure that we had everything we needed to supply our classroom for the little ones. He always said that the kindergarteners were the highlight of the Christmas Concert. He was kind to me and made us even more aware of the importance of learning and education. He will be missed. Sharon Brown

To Nancy and family….we have many happy memory of our association with your family and always remember Dorie Ann’s friendship with Laurie when they were in kindergarten. Someone told me at the time that she and Laurie were walking in the corridor at school along with Marnie Sims and Ralph Smith commented “is it my imagination or are the kids in kindergarten getting tinier every year?” They were like three little dolls! Our sincere condolences to each of you. Becky & Gene Bender

Dear Nancy,
I was so sad to hear of the passing of Angus. He was such a caring and wonderful man. I will always cherish the memories of the days spent at your cottage. We had such a lovely time and Angus was always so welcoming and had stories to tell. I also remember having nice chats with him at school when we did occasional teaching, a few years back. Your many memories will help you through this difficult time.
Love, Betty (Catania)

I was fortunate to be on Angus' staff at two different Huron County schools. He was always so supportive of the music program and to me personally. For me he exemplified one of life's important lessons: "Feel the fear and do it anyway". I have treasured his friendship and send my heartfelt condolences to the MacLennan family on his passing.

Angus was our dear and valued friend for over five decades, from the time he became Nancy's "Best Beau". He was a kind, thoughtful person, concerned about others and always willing to lend a hand and do more than his share. His calm manner and subtle sense of humor lent a warm, positive atmosphere to almost every situation. This was exemplified best in his thousands of hours of volunteer work, always being there for family and friends, and graciously coping when Nancy's "Trefoil crew" descended on their home and cottage. He only once, that we saw, began to lose his cool when the motor on the boat did not co-operate and a trip from the cottage to the mainland was necessary. He did get it going, accompanied by barely audible mutterings! Our shared hours at the cottages are among our best memories. He will be truly missed. Nancy, may these golden summer memories and the love of your friends support you and your family though this difficult journey. Gay and Norman Loveland

We have had the pleasure of living beside the MacLennans for over 15 years, and Angus was the kindest soul you would have the honour to know. Our neighbour, friend and best snow blower in Ontario. Many winter mornings and evenings, he would be out in the worst weather clearing his driveway, and then ours. We could count on him coming for a visit for canvasing for Cancer, and Heart foundations, and he was always working for the needs of others.
He watched over us and our home if we were traveling, making sure we were looked after and we would do the same. His generosity and smile was one in a million. We will miss him dearly.
Nancy, we will do our best to watch over you now. Our heartfelt sorrow is with you and the family.
He is flying with the angels

We are so sorry to receive this sad news. We have such happy memories of Gus at our Principal’s Retreats where we could always count on his entertaining antics. Years ago, when our Principal’s group was returning by train from Ottawa, the train was stalled on the tracks for hours. Ralph and Gus went from car to car telling us all to “keep calm”. They were hilarious. We also were pleased to have the companionship of Gus and Nancy on trips where his knowledge of history was evident. It has been a long time since those days but we have appreciated that we have never lost touch, mainly due to the exchange of annual Christmas letters. We send our deepest sympathy to Nancy and family.

I knew Angus in his presbytery roles. Faithful, dedicated and always good-humoured, he always managed to get the work done, complete the agenda and keep us all focussed as part of the Body of Christ. Someone once commented that "the language of faith is life." That was eminently true for Angus. May your memories bless your journey of grief.

I only knew Angus through Living Waters Presbytery. He was a faithful member, with a deep faith and a great sense of humour. He was very supportive and always interested in how my ministry was going with King City UC. I am grateful for his witness, faith, humour and optimism. Even though I do not know his family, may you know the strength and peace of God's love for each of you. Blessings,
Rev. Evelyn McLachlan (retired)

I worked with Angus on many church committes in Toronto Conference over number of years. He was always a delight, quick with a smile and a laugh. He was always faithful and thoughtful in his deliberations and contributions to discussions and decision making. My condolences to his family on the loss of this great man, especially to his wife Nancy. I don't think I ever chatted with him when he did not mention her in some way.
Blessed Be, Captain (The Reverend) Audrey Brown former President Toronto Conference.

I have many good memories of our years as Principals with The Huron County Board of Education. Most were on the professional side but a few were on the lighter side. On one occasion our flight was diverted to Windsor because of heavy fog in Toronto. Gus took over as the steward in charge of refreshments and kept us all "happy" until our return to Toronto
