Obituary of Beatrice Mary Sage

SAGE, Beatrice Mary, B.A. B. ED 1935-2022 of Gravenhurst, ON Beatrice passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side at Leacock Care Center in Orillia, ON December 14th, 2022 after a struggle with Alzheimer's. Beatrice was born in Toronto the youngest child of eight born to Ruby and Albert Pearce. She was predeceased by husbands, Robert Sage (2019), Donald McTaggart (1988) and D'Arcy Carney (1984) and daughter Joanne Carney (2008) and all of her brother's and sister's. Beloved mother of Mary Beth Birkett and husband Tom, D'Arcy Carney and wife, Donna. Gramma to Darcie, Gordon (Sarah), Tim (Danielle), Michael (Rochelle), Andrew, Kaylee, Joey, Grace. Great Gramma to Damian and Chevall, Jack, Charlie, Liam and Emerson. Gramma Bea to Brady and Charlotte. Special friend to John Sage. Special Aunt to Rosemary Starr and Aunt, great aunt and great, great aunt to many nieces and nephews. Bea received her education at St. Joseph's College School, Ryerson University and University of Toronto. She began her teaching career in 1975 at Mimico High School and went on to initiate the Adult Re-entry Program for the Etobicoke Board of Education at Kipling Collegiate and retired in 1995 from Burnhamthorpe Collegiate. She enjoyed her summers in Muskoka and wintered in the south at Bird Bay Village in Venice, Florida. Bea's activities included creative writing classes, book club, travelling and boating. She was also an avid sports spectator. Family was very important to Bea and she reached into many lives through her compassion and understanding. She will also be remembered for her famous chocolate chip cookies which were a family favourite and staple. With respect to Bea's wishes there will be no funeral. Cremation to take place. A celebration of Bea's life will be held on Sunday, May 7th, 2023 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm, at Islington Golf and Country Club where Bea was a member before retiring to Muskoka. The family would like to thank all of the nursing staff at Leacock Care Centre for the kindness and care she received in her final days. I have known the love and trust of my children. I have been privileged to have good relationships with my grandchildren and have been proud of their many successes. I have enjoyed the company of good friends who have been kind enough to listen to the stories and accomplishments of my children and grandchildren and to be there for me when I needed them most. I have tried to look for the best in others and have tried to give the best to others. I hope that my life has been an inspiration to others and that I will be remembered with great fondness.
