Kovachis, Alexander Alexander Kovachis, 85, passed away peacefully at his home in Sutton, Ontario on Tuesday, August 24, 2021. Alexander was born in Vatohori, Greece in 1936 to Antony and Anna Kovachis. He had two loving siblings, Andy (Voula) and Freda (Mike). Predeceased by his first wife Koreen, and daughter Anna and brother Andy, he leaves behind his adoring wife of 45 years, Marie. Lovingly remembered by his children, John, Nick (Rachel), Anthony (Mario), Peter (Lenka) and Dimitri (Julien), his grandchildren, Christine, Nadia (Dave), Mark (Danielle), Julie and Jonathan (Catherine) and his great grandchildren Eve, Thomas, Lorie and Emma. In 1951, at the age of 15, Alexander immigrated to Canada to join his father and grandfather. Later on, his mother, brother and sister joined the family. He was a driven man who always found love in building his family and legacy. He initially held various jobs in the restaurant industry, prior to moving to Thunder Bay where he worked as a pipefitter and superintendent through Local 628 for various pipeline contractors, building the TransCanada Pipelines and compressor stations in Northern Ontario and Western Canada. In 1972, Alexander moved back to Southern Ontario, settling in Sutton where he co-owned and operated the Granit Restaurant with his family until the mid-1980s. He continued to live in Sutton for the last 50 years with his beloved wife Marie. Alexander was known for his infectious laugh, wit and charm. He never lost an opportunity to compliment and adore. He was always happiest reading, watching Jeopardy/Wheel of Fortune and when his house was full of family and friends. Resting at the Forrest and Taylor Funeral Home, 20846 Dalton Road, Sutton, Monday, August 30, 2021 from 2:00–4:00pm & 6:30–8:30pm; and in Saints Panteleimon, Anna & Paraskevi Greek Orthodox Church, 11323 Warden Ave, Markham, Tuesday, August 31, 2021, from 9:30–10:30am.
