I was shocked to hear of Mike's passing. Although I haven't seen him in a long time, he was a good friend, great sense of humor and the best director I ever worked with at CFTO/CTV. My thoughts and prayers are with is family.
Yours Truly,
Peter Durrant

I just found out of Mike's passing. I owe him so much. He made me a better cameraman and a better person. His no nonsense way was endearing to me. I also don't suffer fools well, but there was always that twinkle in his eye of a mischievous Irishman. We had a lot of fun together, a lot of laughs and that's how I will remember him. My deepest sympathies to Liz, Patrick and Sean. My life was made better by having Mike be a part of it. "Ready 2, take 2 EASY 2 " Godspeed Mike.

Have to believe this is the same character I mis-spent a few years of high school with at the mighty Brebeuf. If so, many great memories and so much fun. How little we knew then but thought we did.
The pic is from the 1969 Echon 69 Brebeuf yearbook. We both appeared in the 68 and 67 version but none as clear as this one.
That school year was probably the last time I ever saw Mike, was somewhat jolted by his pic in the Star obit but will never forget those days.

I had the great pleasure and fun working with Mike at Life Network and Cinevillage ages ago. He was professional and kind and always in for a laugh. Those were good times when the studio crew really felt like family and Mike filled the role of "dad" to all of us young ones in the industry. My heartfelt condolences to Mike's real family. He was a great guy and is missed.

Sincere condolences to Elizabeth, Patrick & Sean:
Mike was a such a great guy and one of the most talented directors I have ever had the pleasure to work with. We did the nightly news and many big broadcasts together and with Mike in the chair the rest of us knew that every detail and difficult situation would be covered off. He did it all with class and style and there was no one better to hang with for the celebrations of work well done.
The industry loses a TV taskmaster and all of us who knew and worked with him lose a loyal friend and great companion.

My sincere condolences to the Hooey family on the sudden passing of Mike.
Mike was an old friend from our St Bonnies days in Don Mills where we enjoyed growing up and had many great times. We reconnected years later at the Sears store in UpperCanada Mall where Mike worked after he left CTV. We had good laughs talking about our younger days.May he Rest In Peace .

Liz and family,
Janine and I were very saddened to hear the news of Mike's passing. Although we haven't seen you for quite some time, we have thought of you both often. Mike was a real mentor to me during the time we worked together. He was both kind and generous to me as I developed my skills in the news business.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.

Mike was a larger than life character in the newsroom; the quintessential organized and focused director. He was someone you didn't want to cross in the workplace! But beneath the tough exterior, a pussycat, complete mush; especially if you asked about his family.
Both Lloyd and I were lucky to have him on our side!
My thoughts are with Elizabeth, Patrick and Sean as they navigate life without the incomparable Michael.
Best regards, Sandie Rinaldo
