Carol and I are still reeling from this horrible news about Dave's passing. Our deepest sympathy and condolences go out to Adrian, Larissa and Hilary.
We first met Dave almost 13 years ago, through our mutual connection with the Ontario Conditions (OC) snowmobiling forum. Dave was an active and very well-respected member of that internet board, and served as one of several OC moderators. He became a good friend, and we shared many snowmobiling adventures together over the ensuing years, including numerous lengthy saddle-bagging trips in many regions of Quebec and much of north-eastern Ontario....and we always enjoyed collaborating on the trip planning, almost as much as the trips themselves. He was always a delight to spend time with, because of his never-ending good humour, his ready willingness to help a fellow sledder in any way he could, his almost bottomless "tool-bag" always on his sled which invariably had whatever anyone needed for a quick repair, and his keen desire to ride trails, wherever they may be, whenever the opportunity presented itself.
Dave will be truly and deeply missed by all who knew him...including us.
Rest in peace, good friend...future trips just won't be the same without you.
Bob & Carol

I'm saddened at Daves passing. We knocked around with old Volvos in the 70's, started families in the 80's, met up at rallies through all of the decades and Dave convinced me to get my Ham license. Now the dreaded Covid has taken him. Godspeed, Dave. Mark Ockwell.

I emailed this to my closest friends and fellow snowmobilers.
I have lost a dear friend and we have lost an avid snowmobiler to COVID. Dave Marzetti from Pefferlaw, Ontario CA passed away from COVID Wednesday evening. I couldn’t even venture a guess at how many miles and years Dave has ridden a snowmobile. My friend Bob Macaulay and Dave were the two people that put together almost all of the snowmobiling tours that I have taken in Canada.
He and Bob are two of the best snowmobilers for organizing multiple day rides and always had everything spot on. It didn’t matter if you were stuck, broke down or (never) lost they knew what to do and where to go.
Dave was an excellent rider dedicated to riding a Yamaha. This summer we talked about getting a new sled but he was not going to buy a Yamacat! He tinkered with electronics and if you ever rode with him, his sled was a sight to see. There wasn’t much more space for lights and electronic gadgets on a sled. He was very much involved in his local club and the federation.
My trips to Canada are now one less snowmobiler in our group. I know all your “rights” but please wear a mask, social distance , travel as little as possible and do your best to stop this pandemic. It will take each and every one of us to do it.
I cannot lose another one of you.
Godspeed Dave.

Deeply saddened to learn of Dave's passing. Him and I rallied together quite a bit in the late 80's. Dave driving and myself navigating, in his thundering Volvo. He was a good driver - never put us in the ditch - and a good friend. Win or lose - he always had a smile on his face. Rest in peace my friend.

So devastated to hear this sad news. We saw David a little over a year ago when he attended my Dad's funeral and it was only recently that he inquired about a wine we served at a celebration of life. Hilary, Adrian and Larissa, please accept our most sincere condolences at this time of loss.

Hilary, Larissa and Adrian, please accept my sincere condolences. I haven't seen Dave in years, but I grew up across the street from him. We played together in the neighbourhood as kids and then hung out together as teens. I remember snowmobiling with him. He was a true gentleman, sweet and caring. Gone too soon. I met Dave about 8 years ago through Ontario Conditions Snowmobile Forum and quickly became great friends and did numerous snowmobile trips with him through Quebec and Northern Ontario and a few rides closer to home. His big laugh and smile will always be remembered. He loved spending time with his friends and laughing about our adventures over a beverage or two at dinners once the riding was done. Rest in peace my friend and know you will be greatly missed.
My deepest condolences to his family and friends as we all grieve the loss of a truly great man!! Till we meet again Dave-SJ Cheers, sledding won't be the same without you this and upcoming seasons.

My thoughts and prayers are with Hilary, Adrian, and Larisa. Dave was a wonderful man, husband, father, and he will be deeply missed by his friends and family.
I’m proud to call Dave my friend and my snowmobiling mentor. His nickname is “sledjunk” or SJ for short. Here are a few things SJ taught me over the years:
- Yamaha makes the best snowmobile :)
- he showed me how to change the battery on my Yamaha apex (not an easy task)
- he invited me on two Northern Ontario snowmobile trips
- he showed me how to use my gps with the snowmobile trails downloaded onto it. (I’ll be lost without him)
- the list goes on and on
Dave, thank you so much for being my friend and mentor. I miss you and will think of you every time I ride my snowmobile.

I met Dave when we started learning Morse code with Murray, then VE3ATO. We ended up meeting up regularly to work on projects at Filbetron. Got to see some of Rally work at Rally of the Voyagers. And a number of Dayton trips over the years. Even managed to help out the family Ski-doo team through Mattawa. The sense of loss is profound. He will be missed
Rest in peace my dear friend.

RIP Dave,
I remember lots of rally times with Dave in the old days, he was always helping or competing. He was also one of the Rally Hams that were always volunteering at the events. His son Adrian did Navigational Rallies and had become one of my chief rivals in recent years. Every time I look at Adrian, I see Dave, there is a lot of family resemblance. I have not seen Dave for a number of years, but Adrian brought him to the KW Rally Club Banquet in January, and we reconnected a bit. Little did I know it would be the last time I saw him. Dave will be missed, by lots of people, he made friends wherever he went.

I have not seen Dave for a number of years now, so it is with great sadness to know that he is no longer with us. I first met him through rallying and the Toronto Autosport Club, where he was quite active, at times President and Secretary. He was Organiser in the early days of the Georgian Trials performance rally, where I worked closely with him, in the 1980's.
Dave always had a positive attitude and worked hard to accomplish his goals, which he did.
I offer sincere condolences to Hilary, Adrian and Larissa, and to others of his family, and friends.
Dave was a pleasure to have known.

I am so sorry to hear about Dave’s passing. My husband Glenn (VE3 ROQ) and I (VE3 JYF) both knew Dave from the York Region Amateur Radio Club, separately, before we were married. I think Dave knew I was crushing on Glenn way back then, but I was committed to my folks and young daughter. Years later, we’re married, and I’m sure Dave nudged Glenn in the right direction, tough neither of them ever admitted it. I can remember the smirk Dave had on his face when we told him.
I can’t imagine what this must feel like for Dave’s family, but I wanted you to know you’re in our thoughts.
Many years ago, when my family and I attended a “Field Day” at Doug’s property down south of you, Dave had teken a photo of my druther running around. And the smile on her face, hair flowing as she bounced, was amazing. I remember he took the photo with a pen... yeap really. He always had the best gadgets. My daughter was wearing a pink and white striped top. It is still one of my favorite photos.
Glenn went along with some of the car rallies with Patric and Dave quite a few years ago, and has fond memories of the “tall pines”.
The first time my husband took me up to your place, being from a drag racing family, I was awe struck by your garage. And that same grin was on Dave’s face.
Dave’s jovial manor, and grin, always reminded me of my own dad. So with Dave’s compassion, I knew I was with family when ever we were near him. I will miss him dearly.
If there is anything we can do. Please don’t hesitate to call or email.
Sincerely,
Glenn & Judy Hayward

Dave you will be truly missed !! I just can't believe that you are gone. We shared so many memories of ham radio, the ham fest and of Dayton. Strange that I did not know we were the same age and had been married the same year. I remember the last time I saw you which was at Dayton in 2019 while you were with Bob Morton out in the mud pit as we called it. May you rest in peace old friend and my dearest condolences to your wife, children and all the family and friends you left behind.
