Alfie WAS Island Grove!
He was always there, with that little sparkle in his eyes and a little impish smile. You just knew he was up to something.
You will be truly missed by oh so many, Alfie!
To Joan, Bruce, Jim and Andy and Your Families, please accept my most Sincere and Heartfelt Condolences!

Alf Sheppard was the guy who looked after our cottage at Island Grove that we had for about 10 years. He cut the grass, fixed the break wall, and kept the services running. He was all ‘round handy. He would stop by on a Saturday, come up the lawn, see me with hammer and nails, working around and the first thing he’d say is, “What the hell are you guys up to now,” in the friendliest way, with a grin on his face, that he could muster.
We were lucky to have him around the place. He was a true and honest man.
Godspeed, Alf.

Condolences to the Sheppard Family. Our family first met Alfie in 1959 when my parents bought a place in Island Grove. As a child I played with Jim and Bruce (sorry Andy you came along a little later). Alfie was always there to bail us out of a jam and there were many visits from him. I will relay one of those stories: I remember the time that my dad had a yellow International or Fargo pickup with a boat trailer and backed down the ramp at our place to take the boat out of the water. There were two problems, the water wasn't deep enough, so the truck and trailer had to go a bit into the lake and the wheels got wet, the tires were bald and the ramp ended up being wet wood. The combination meant that the truck and boat couldn't make it up the ramp. "CALL ALFIE!" He came with his Dark Green 1951 Ford Dump Truck. In seconds he attached a chain to the front of the pickup, put the dump truck in 1st gear, stepped out of the truck and without any driver at the wheel, it marched up the ramp slowly pulling the pickup and boat out with it. I have never seen anything like that since! Our family's memories have always been fond ones of him. He will be missed.

Joan, Bruce, Jim and Andy,
My condolences to you and your family. Alfie was a permanent fixture on the lake and in Island Grove. If anyone needed anything done, you called Alfie and he was always willing to help. A kind and caring soul with lots of stories to share.

There was nothing not to like about Alfie. My favourite memory was the time I came home to find a Squirrel had got in the house. Our Boxer dog had a grand old time chasing it; what a mess I came home too. Panicking, I immediately phoned Alfie, who came in & in a short while solved the problem...The Squirrel was set free. That was 30 years ago
RIP Alfie Polly & Sid Giddings ❤️

When i was a child staying at my grandparent cottage on lake drive, Alfie and my grandfather would spent the evening together on the porch. I would love to join them when i could to listen to all the stories that they told. Alfie was such a colorful talker, very expressive and so much fun. The both of them would end up laughing so much. Alfie just fascinated me. I miss those time and I will miss Alfie. John Sedgley and family.
