To Judy and family, I would like to express my deep condolences on the passing of John. As a cousin in law, I don’t think I knew John really well, but I knew him for a long time. Each time I saw him, I was left with a smiling memory of him. He just had that effect on people. The last time I saw John was at Rose’s funeral. We were are gathered in the hotel lobby waiting for John so we could leave for the service. When he arrived in the lobby he was « swarmed » by many women as they helped him to tie his tie. The expression on his face I still remember. It was as if he expected no less. Everyone was laughing. I think that laughter was a normal part of his life.
You will all miss him and his magnetic character, and you will remember all those little special moments you have of him.
My condolences to you. I will donate to the heart and stroke organization in John’s name.

Dad, today I lay you to rest.
You have worn so many different hats in your life time!
I am so impressed!
the places you have been
the things you have accomplished
the lives you have touched
the good natured way in which you have done so
I am so proud!
You have never wavered. I admire you!
a calm genuine heart and pleasure to meet
a unique joker and pleasure to have around
a humble gentleman to know and witness
a kind voice of encouragement to rely on
a hard worker and man to respect
a consistent mentor many have learned from
a fun favourite to celebrate with
You have been an incredible human that I know your grandson Ashton aka Louie, my hubby Brent, Kennedy, Gavin and I will continue to always try to impress you. You have raised and given me a remarkable brother and sister. You have always had our backs. I promise to always have theirs. You have cultivated a unique bond with each one our children. They are all as genuine as you are. Know that your essence will follow generationally. Your adoring connection to Mom/each other has been an inspiring blessing to witness. Rest easy. I will love and protect your soul mate as you have. The significance of you and the impressions you have made on all of us here and any/all you have met.....is sincerely limitless. Everyone that you have in your life is a gift to us with the memories they share and comfort that they provide. To say that you are loved and missed is an understatement, but......you are with us and as are all of the funny things you have said to break the silence and would say today to calm my tears.
“there is no crying in baseball”.
You are my person. The man who showed me how to work hard and trust the process. The one who taught me how to love and to lead with my heart. Game on! You did it your way. This is a new chapter for our family, but pay attention.....we are going to be bragging about you and the legacy of John Wood forever!

Jude and Family, I'd like to convey my sincere condolences to you all. I know very well that feeling of not having that special person beside you day to day. I remember when you arrived on the channel in those early years. You and John were always a fixture heading out the channel in your boat for a day of living in the sun. You became a special part of the North and South Channel family. I see by all the tributes to John that there are many people who love you and will give you support. They will keep you afloat. John will be missed. Sincerely, Kathryn Thomson (Hugh and Brian's cousin) 207 North Channel Dr.

Dear John, You had a wonderful marriage to my wonderful sister Jude.
Ted and I always felt very lucky to have shared so many cherished memories of our family celebrations together.Always exciting. The cousins couldn’t wait to get to the lake for the fun
You were a special person who loved life. Always a smile, always a story or two. You loved boating, skiing,[barefoot no less] traveling and music. You even learned to play the ukulele. Grandpa Virtue was so impressed.
Ted will always remember those extraordinarily fun fishing trips where all the problems of the world were solved. And, a special weekend together when we flew to New York to watch in person the “Triple Crown” winner be crowned.
Mostly, you loved coming home to the Lake to Jude, Kelly, Kirsten, and Kari. You were a family man.
Ted and I are better people to have known you. Thank you.
We will miss you dearly. Our family gatherings will not be the same without you.
Judy: May your family, many friends and memories help you through this very sad time.
Love Always, Ted and Rose

Dear Judy and family
It was with great sadness that I heard of John’s passing.
I saw John as a kind, caring, sincere person with such a positive attitude and always a smile.
As you know Judy, John, after his retirement, would come to Bolton to help us out once in a while when Peter was able to get away for a few days. I looked forward to seeing John as he always had a joke or two or a funny story to relate. He always brightened the day, Even on a snowy winters’ day, there was no keeping him home, he would get into his car and drive to Bolton to help his friend and colleague. That’s the person he was!
Rest In Peace John....

Dear Jude, Kelly, Kirsten, Kari and families,
Sending you all our deepest love and heartfelt sympathy. Some 45 years ago, I was blessed to have met your wonderful family who I thought had the 'coolest' parents, John and Jude. You may remember the early years we spent many many summers together as I was the lucky babysitter to Kelly, Kirsten and Kari. You welcomed me into your home and made me feel like part of your family. You were my life during my summers at Keswick and left me with so many warm and cherished memories. John was then, and now, will always be remembered as kindhearted, warm, fun loving, adventurous man who always had a twinkle in his eye, and a smile on his face. He deeply loved his family and knew how to enjoy life to the fullest. He will always be remembered fondly by my mum, Mildred Hood, and our family and deeply missed.
With love and friendship,
Linda Sanders (Hood)

John Wood - "Woodsie". A selfless devoted family man that truly knew and lived the definition of unconditional love and acceptance. I had the fortune and luck of being mentored and working as John's side-kick for 5+ years in his Wellington Trust, Montreal Trust and Scotiabank days. During those 5 years John taught me what was really important and did it with style and laughs that are still reverberating today in my world. My style and mannerisms that guide me today in my own business since those years are a true reflection of my time spent with John. Thank you Woodsie. My love to Judy, Kelly, Kirsten, Kari and all at this time. You will live on in eternity John in the so many hearts you touched. A portion of mine has your name on it.

Our families deepest condolences to Judy, Kelly, Kirsten and Kari.
John was my godfather and as such, as many have already said, a very large and influential figure in my life. He always added a suffix to my parents' names (Frankie and Patsy, never Frank and Pat) which I found hilarious, especially when I was young.
My first memory of John and Judy is that, when I was young, they always treated me as an individual - someone who should be involved in the discussions and activities, rather than put in the next room in front of the television. My second memory is my Dad telling me that it was only because of John's encouragement that he and Mom bought the house in Georgetown 54 years ago. Dad didn't think they could afford the house but John showed them otherwise and, by doing so, helped set Mom and Dad on a strong financial footing. Finally, when I was refused my first mortgage by my then current bank, it was John who called me and told me to visit him at the Montreal Trust branch he managed. He gave me that first mortgage and, by doing so, set me on that same strong financial footing that he helped my parents with years earlier. That mortgage has long been repaid and I still bank with Scotiabank (who purchased Montreal Trust) some 30+ years later, proving John's belief in me was well founded (and always appreciated).
I will always carry fond memories of John with me.

Today I’d like to give thanks to someone very special to me. This is my Grandpa John. If you haven’t met him before you’re probably wondering why he is blocking the family photo. Well Grandma John never fails to make a crowd laugh, make someone smile or turn a situation positive. Growing up with him around I’ve learned to always stay positive. It’s so important to make sure to always spread love and joy to others. And every time you do you touch the lives of others, just like John did everyday. Life is to short not to joke around, have a good time and enjoy what you do.
So live by the words of John, “Work hard, play harder”.
I am thankful for everything you’ve done for me, all you’ve tought me and for your unforgettable smile.

When I think of John, we’re always in a place that’s fun.... with a glass of wine and a deck of cards not far away. We’re at Niagara on the Lake, playing a few hands before we see a play, or in Greece taking a little break during sightseeing, or, ideally, just sitting on the deck on the South Channel. Wherever we were, they never forgot John....he was always teasing the waitress, making our guide’s life especially interesting with well timed comments, or, unbelievably, helping our driver wash the bus! His purpose was always to help everyone enjoy! If we ever get back to travelling again, it won’t be that much fun anyway, ‘cause you won’t be there.....love you, my friend......Pat

Our sincere condolences to Jude and all the family. John and I worked together in the 60s and always had a great time. We invited John and Jude to come to our cottage in Keswick in the late 60s and they were to arrive by 9pm. We waited until 11 and went to bed. A knock on our window at 3 am woke us and all we could hear was John laughing. He said they got lost. That was John. That was the start of their life in Keswick.
We had many fun weekends with the boats and water skies. Most of the time Jude would just say " Oh John" when he was acting up. ( which was often)
I am so pleased that I got to have a long conversation with John early this week. We reminisced a lot. I will truly miss him.

John and Jude were the first couple we curled with when we joined the Sutton Curling Club many years ago. We couldn't have been paired up with a better couple and had ourselves a wonderful time that first season. We looked forward to our Friday night mixed league at the club with both of them. We can remember some really good belly laughs with John's jokes, especially when he didn't quite get the joke right, but somehow managed to make it funny anyway.
John was a relentless fund raiser and put his mark on the success the club has enjoyed through the years. We will remember him fondly, keep him close in our thoughts and prayers, and we offer our deepest sympathy to Jude and the rest of the family.
