Kathy & Mark: We got a message from a family friend that your dad had passed away. We both want you to know our hearts go out to both you and your families at this terrible time of loss. The first time I met your dad was at the Milton Fair Grounds on the August long weekend 1980. Debbie Kearney and I had met at nursing school and became friends. Somehow along the way Debbie felt that Ron and I would like each other, so a blind date was set up and .....you know the history. Upon meeting your Dad he gave me all the info that he thought I should know about this Ron character. Words that I still remember were like Garbage can, Vacuum cleaner, loud music and fast boats at the cottage. But all along as the tales were being told your father had a glimmer in his eyes and a sheepish smile that seemed to be getting bigger as I was getting redder than a tomatoe. All the while your mom was standing behind him and telling me not to listen to this husband of hers. Your dad is remembered by both of us with heavy hearts, but also with some of the fondest & funniest memories ever. I want to think that Freddie is up somewhere with Gertie, rocking themselves on a puffy white cloud in the sky just above Loonbay casting some fishing lines and reliving the best time of their lives with their children & family. Love to you both Norma & Ron

A letter from a granddaughter
A man should be remembered for his laugh, his contagious smile, his sense of humour, for his unconditional love.
A man who was brave, kind and who taught me to love the outdoors. Who helped me fall in love with atvs, for bass fishing, and for always putting a worm on my hook. Who was patient in teaching me to waterski in the bay all day because I didn’t want to give up long after my arms gave out. A man who never complained when I followed you everywhere when I’d come for summer vacation. Who every morning helped me see the world from your lap on the swivel chair in the sunroom.
A man with the strength to live long after the love of his life became an angel. A man who effortlessly wrapped your arms around the heart of a young girl trying to make sense of a world where her grandmother would no longer wander. A man who never failed to steal my pie when I wasn’t looking. A man with a passion for morning Scrabble, Solitaire or Crosswords.
A man whose grandson carried on your firefighting legacy. Whose grandson looks a spitting image of you. Whose memory will be cherished and talked about for as long as we all shall live.
Wherever we go now, whatever comes next, whatever happens, I believe Gert is happy. That you are happy. That you can rest and you know how much my life was forever changed by the love you gave. A man should be remembered for all he shared with this world, and how many lives you enlightened along the way.
Until next time Freddie. xox

Kathy, Mark, Sandra and families, our fondest memories of Uncle Bill were as kids camping together almost every weekend and always at a different locations. Your Dad seemed to have a big grin on his face the whole weekend. I truly think it was one of his most favorite things to do. We'll celebrate the memories, grieve his loss, but cherish the opportunity we had to know him. Our deepest sympathies to you all.

Sandra, Mark, Kathy and families,
Bill was a true friend and we enjoyed many good times, through the fire department and at our cottages. He was always there to help no matter the task.
He was very active in Campbellville, initially as part of the winning ball team and then as a valued member of the fire department.
Family and friends were always important to him.
He leaves many happy memories and will be missed.
