I was deeply saddened to hear of John’s passing. While I never met John, I had spoken to him over the phone on several occasions. He was a very close friend of my father, Terry McKnight. They were coworkers at Challenger and my father admired him greatly. John seemed to be a very kind man and always joined in in teasing my dad when he couldn’t get to his phone on time. My condolences to all of his family and friends, I know he will be dearly missed.

It is with a heavy heart that we share this. We miss you John, more than you could ever know. More than we ever could have thought possible. We could laugh with you, argue with you...then laugh again. You at times were such a conundrum. Yet we loved to spend time wth you and Kim. Literally, you confounded us at times, yet it always seemed to end in us leaving you with a smile, kiss and a hug. This is a lesson we learned from you...always leave the ones you love...with a smile, kiss, and a hug...because you never know when you will see them again. In the words of your beloved family...Rest in peace Papa John. Our gentle giant, we love you and will always keep you in our hearts.

With my brother John Greathead on our Uncle 'Red's ' Harley-Davidson, wearing the cowboy hats he had brought us for our 5th birthday. Approximately 40 years later , he let me sail his boat. No photo available the last time he took me flying in his vintage Cessna & turned in to my "Evil Twin " by purposely stalling the engine.
